BEHIND THE TRACK...

‘Bring Your Army’ was fun to make! We knew we wanted something a bit more upbeat, more in your face and less introspective. It came together pretty quickly; the bouncy synth in the intro came first, then the bouncing bassline after the intro verse. By the time we’d gotten to the gravelly synth in the chorus we were bouncing all over the place!

The lyrics came in two parts. The first line ‘Looking out the window for a sign that never comes’ had been written a couple of years before. It was something I’d scribbled in a notebook while daydreaming looking out of the window whilst at one of the many office jobs I’d had (and trying not to lose the will to live!). The rest of the lyrics were written as we wrote the tune. They’re about falling out with someone, being hurt by them but trying not to show it, and at the same time entreating them to examine their own life to improve it for the better.

Lyrics

Looking out the window for a sign that never comes
This wasn't easy you know, it never is
Looking for the words to tell you what I have become
It isn’t easy you know, but what is, what is, what is?

Looking for a sign in you that helps me know the truth
Helps me know what to do, I've got to push on through
I've got to push on through
Push on through
Push on through

Push me away and you'll be sorry
Brace to fight and bring your army
Make a stand won't let you drown me
Come here and see what you made of me
Take your words that do not harm me
Shed your skin you won't be sorry
Love your life and all you can be
Give it a try get your freedom to fly

Push me away and you'll be sorry
Brace to fight and bring your army
Love your life and all you can be
Give it a try get your freedom to fly
