Hola Amigos! We are currently sat in the van looking out over the Mediterranean Sea in Malaga! The view is stunning - we have sea in front, left and right, and also to our right are the hills/mountains of the next bit of coastline, looming up hazily out of the ocean almost like a mirage… it’s pretty cool! We had a wonderful evening last night in Malaga, meeting up

BEHIND THE TRACK... ‘The Calling’ came about over a few sessions. We had quite a lot of the elements and I wrote the lyrics as the track was being built. We had these really strong chords that we liked a lot, but the way I was singing the lyrics wasn’t really working. I loved the words but I was singing them quite low, with not much intonation and the

Well it has now been nearly two months since we started living in a van full time. We have been up and down the country, visiting friends and family, and making up for lost time while we were in our DIY hermit phase (see previous post ‘Twas the week before Xmas’). We’ve driven through snow, rain, battering winds, across moorland and motorway, hill and valley. We’ve slept in car

All the news from Day 16 to 22 of our adventures as musical nomads… video editing (uuuurrggghh!!!!), wiggly roads, WIND and RAIN!

Day 16, Saturday 24th March

Messanges Plage, Atlantic Coast, France

Lovely spot right by the beach. Beautiful! Got here last night about 6ish. Just in time to take some wine and a beer down to the beach as the sun went down. Bit cold though! When it got too cold we went back to the van for the evening to work on some music. Very windy in the night! And rainy! When a friend told us the Bay of Biscay could be windy, they weren’t lying!

Plan for the day?
  • Just made release plan for ‘Wake Up’! Now going to work on music video.
3 things happy about now?
  • Back getting better!
  • Nice and cosy in van
  • Huey [Huey Morgan - 6 Music] on the radio! Huey, Huey!

Later on we drove on to Plage de la Madrague, near Biarritz.

Day 17, Sunday 25th March

Plage de la Madrague, near Biarritz, France -

Oh my goodness, ridiculous wind & rain all night again - crazy!! MUCH worse than last night (and we thought that was bad!). We both hardly slept a wink with the sound of it! The weather takes on a whole different meaning in a van, you experience it all so much more - the sound of rain on the roof, the wind buffeting you around! Makes you feel really involved in the weather, like you're really in it. It's a cool feelng at times but it wasn't the best night’s sleep!

The plan today is to get to Spain! Woooo! My Dad was Spanish and I have lots of family there, so I'm really excited that we will be getting to know the country. We’re planning to stay in the San Sebastián area tonight and carry on with the music video editing and release plans.

3 things happy about now?
  • That we are warm and dry in van 🙂
  • Eating a yummy croissant and jam for brekkie!
  • Only 30 miles from Spain!
Looking forward to today?
  • Getting to Spain!
  • And hopefully rain/wind dying down?!

Later on we drove to España!! First to San Sebastián then on to the Área Rural de Listorreta.

Yummy Croissant!

Day 18 - Monday 26 March 2018

Área Rural de Listorreta, Spain - up in the hills about 20 minutes outside San Sebastián

We're in Spain baby!

It’s truly stunning here! We are surrounded by hills and trees… It was very rainy in the night but not windy at all - definitely an improvement on last night! Woke up to blue skies and beautiful scenery! It feels like we are in alpine land - anyone remember the kids book, ‘Heidi’? Well the landscapes in that - that’s what we’re in! It’s gorgeous. If we didn’t need to stock up on food I think we’d happily stay here for a couple of nights.

Plan 4 today?
  • LIDL supermarket shop
  • Launderette
  • Find somewhere nice for a few days
Happy about now?
  • Woke up in beautiful place!
  • Did exercises (gentle cos of back) in blissful surroundings
  • We are on our own schedule!
Looking forward to today?
  • Finding another beautiful place!
  • Getting more done on music video
Later we drove to the Urdaibai Reserva de los Biosfera, then to Faro de Matxitxako…

Today we have driven along the coast road all the way from San Sebastián. The scenery the whole way was pretty incredible… little towns nestled amongst huge cliffs, teaming with pine trees and gorgeous lush green vegetation. Absolutely breathtaking… What a beautiful coastline. Already we are loving Spain 🙂 The road was a bit crazy in some places - so windy and at places very narrow - but fortunately it wasn’t a very busy road either so we didn’t have to breathe in to pass many cars!

Tomorrow we are not going anywhere! We’re planning to stay put for the day and get some work done on the music video and promo, etc. We have everything we need here which is ace 🙂

Day 19 - Tuesday 27th March 2018

Faro de Matxitxako, Basque region, Spain

Found a beautiful spot last night in the Urdaibai Reserva de los Biosfera, a little east of Bilbao. Took a rough road off the main one after Bermeo and followed it to the end… we weren’t sure whether we were going to make it all the way or if we’d have to reverse all the way back out! We didn’t want a repeat of what happened in Long Buckby! (See our second blog post Advice for Van Dwellers for that story!)… Fortunately though we found a great place! Right at the end of a peninsula, lighthouse on top of the hill and a building on the edge of the cliff with a bird watching area in it. We literally have sea views as far as the eye can see! Kind of feels like we’re on the edge of the world 🙂 It was very, VERY windy in the night, we both thought we were going to take off! We’ve moved the van now to a more sheltered spot and that has helped. There was one van here on arrival and another arrived here at midnight.

Plan for today?
  • Stay put and get loads done on music video - a complete edit would be great.
Happy about right now?
  • I can see the sea from my window!
  • We have complete freedom!
Looking forward to today?
  • Getting music video done so only FX left!

Later

Today we have chilled here. It has been lovely! Still very windy but less so than last night. The people who were camped here last night had gone by this morning so we’ve nicked their position in the shelter of the hill. We are being blown around a lot less than last night which is great!

We’ve had a productive day; Bryn has been getting all of the promo materials together for the ‘Wake Up’ release and I’ve been busy editing the music video. But… unfortunately Bryn doesn’t like it! I hold my hands up, I am not a film director or editor! Give me audio any day. We are going to look at it together tomorrow to get it right. Lesson learned; we really both need to decide on the video ‘story’ before either of us starts editing, otherwise it’s time wasted!

It turns out that this spot is well known by lots of people as there have been cars turning up all day to get out, have a wander and get very blown around. We have also been kept company by a lot of sheep, who were sheltering further down on the hillside. Little cuties!

The lighthouse at Faro De Matxitxako

Day 20, Wednesday 28th March

Faro de Matxitxako, Basque region, Spain

Woke up this morning to beautiful sunshine! The wind has died down a lot and there’s proper warmth in the sun! Such a beautiful way to wake up, with the sun glistening off the sea… Bryn got some gorgeous pictures. We both walked down right to the bottom of the hill to the rocks by the sea… so gorgeous! I had a lovely meditation sat on one of the rocks, listening to the crashing waves… very peaceful. Which is odd cos it was super loud! Despite the loudness that sound is very soothing somehow. I love it!

Plan for today?
  • A better edit of ‘Wake Up’ video would be great!
Happy about now?
  • Waking up to a beautiful, sunny day!
  • Drinking tea and eating porridge in our van!
Looking forward to today?
  • Getting music video edit done. Again!

Later on we drove to Bilbao!

Day 21, Thursday 29th March

Bilbao

Last night we came to a campsite on the south-east of Bilbao so we could explore the city. We are up on a hill with views over the whole city - it is incredible! ¡¡Increiblé!! It is sunny again - yay! Today we will explore Bilbao. It is Semana Santa (Easter weekend) so there are celebrations going on. Apparently the processions - los processiones - and celebrations started on 23rd March and end of 1st April. ¡23 Marzo de 1 Abril! ¡Irreal! Mad!

3 things happy about now?
  • I am healthy and well!
  • We are exploring España!
  • I am improving my Spanish!
Looking forward to today?
  • Exploring!
  • Eating churros!
  • Having a wee drinky!

Day 22, Friday 30th March

Bilbao

Bit hungover! Drank a LOT of red wine (vino tinto) yesterday! Very fun day! Wandered around Bilbao the whole day… it is a really interesting and pretty city. We both liked it a lot. Found some funky back streets in the centre which were clearly the ‘party’ streets. It was really good fun!

Later

Today we drove along the coast a bit then south into Los Picos de Europa, a huge mountain range in Northern Spain. Really windy roads! We were literally driving along this little road at the bottom of a ravine, wiggling in and out, hugging the base of the mountain, with huge mountains looming over us on either side… so crazy!

So we are now - quite a bit sooner than planned - back in the UK. It’s all a bit strange! I’ve really enjoyed not being able to understand the majority of the conversations around me. I’ve enjoyed the ‘bubble’ that this puts you in - if you can’t understand what people are saying, then you can’t really get sucked into the daily lives going on around you, which

First things first - NEW MUSIC ALERT!! This Friday 10th August, we are releasing ‘The Calling - Afterglow Mix’, a chilled reworking of one of our tunes. BEHIND THE TRACK... The first part of ‘My Protection’ that came about was the soft marimba melody that opens the tune. We’d been messing around on various different vst’s, trying to come up with something ‘fun’ but not really getting anywhere. Bryn took a short break to hang out some washing (oh the joys of a home studio!) and I started messing around after finding the marimba instrument. Bryn

Frick on a stick it’s JULY already!! Wowsers. We thought we’d have ‘done’ Italy and be in Croatia by now! And we’re still in Spain! It’s funny, before you actually go and you are just thinking about travelling around countries, it’s easy to imagine that you’ll be able to amble around them in about a month each and move on. But we’ve been in Spain for about 10 weeks

We’re in a different country!! Woooo! We are currently in a beautiful little camper stop in a small town in Northern Italy, just on the other side of the Alps. It is insanely beautiful here… and the mountains are HUGE. Aside from all the mozzy bites I have on me (23 at last count!) we feel like very, very lucky people to be here and to be able to
